About the u’GOOD research programme
u’GOOD is a groundbreaking research programme that supports research projects investigating topics affecting young people in urban and peri-urban areas in the Global South through the lens of relational wellbeing.
At its heart, relational wellbeing is about the power of connections. It's the simple idea that our sense of wellness comes from the quality of our relationships – with our friends and family, with our communities and with the institutions that shape our lives. When these connections are strong, we are better equipped to build a brighter future for ourselves and for generations to come.
The programme – which spans nine countries – is led by the National Research Foundation and the Human Sciences Research Council in South Africa, and Fondation Botnar in Switzerland.
The u’GOOD research programme:
nine focus countries
The 23 projects selected to be part of the u’GOOD research programme will conduct meaningful research on topics pertaining to young people and relational wellbeing across nine countries in the Global South. The projects will use relational principles in their work and research approaches that are people-centred, collaborative and participatory.
About the partners
The u’GOOD research programme is funded by Fondation Botnar, a Switzerland-based philanthropic foundation dedicated to young people’s wellbeing. The National Research Foundation in South Africa is the programme and fund manager, and the country’s Human Sciences Research Council is the lead research organisation, chosen for its knowledge, leadership and expertise in human and social sciences research.
