Dr Yoliswa Ntsepe

Dr Yoliswa Ntsepe is a project manager at the Equitable Education and Economies division of the Human Sciences Research Council. She holds a PhD in Social Anthropology from the University of the Western Cape (2015) and a master’s in Social Development and Planning (cum laude, 2007) from Nelson Mandela University.

In her current role, Dr Ntsepe provides technical support to the implementation of the u'GOOD research programme, connecting the conceptual and practical elements of the programme, which includes, but is not limited to, the monitoring, evaluation, and strategic learning and communications workstreams. She also coordinates the activities of the community of practice to stimulate evidence-informed discussions and uptake of the relational wellbeing approach.

Previous and current experience and special projects
Dr Ntsepe has extensive experience in qualitative research, with a focus on the social aspects and biomedical dimensions of HIV/AIDS, TB and STIs. Her NGO project management experience includes strengthening the capacity of emerging NGOs implementing public health programmes. She has worked in multiple countries and collaborated with colleagues in Botswana, Malawi, Lesotho, Zimbabwe and Kenya.

Before returning to the HSRC, Dr Ntsepe was the adolescent programmes manager at the Desmond Tutu Health Foundation, managing a USAID-funded fellowship programme that aimed to build the research capacity of emerging researchers in the sub-Saharan region.

Publications and highly relevant or major achievements/positions
Ntsepe has co-published scientific articles centred on the social aspects of HIV and STIs in local and international peer-reviewed academic journals and contributed to client technical reports. She is a registered member of the Anthropology Southern Africa Association.
