Project advisory group: senior
Prof. Sukanya Krishnamurthy’s research centres on geographies of children and youth, with a focus on co-creating spatial vocabularies with and for children and young people in the Majority World. Grounded in extensive fieldwork in India, her work interrogates how childhoods in the Majority World are shaped by distinct spatial materialities, influenced by factors such as age, gender, religion, and caste. By engaging with geographies of childhood, urban planning, and design, she reimagines the everyday geographies and lived realities of children and young people in these regions.
Her research portfolio spans India, Brazil, the Netherlands, Turkey, Israel, and the UK, and she has served as Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator on numerous projects related to urban transformations, funded by the UK, EU, and third-sector organisations.
She currently holds a Personal Chair in Geographies of Children and Young People at the School of GeoSciences, University of Edinburgh.
